After the resounding success of the 2023 BMW i4 Gran Coupé, whose M50 version is the bestselling M model of the year, it’s not surprising that the German manufacturer did a slight redesign of the BMW i4 for 2024.
Discover the electric BMW, its new powertrain, athletic exterior, upscale interior and much more!
Release Date and 2024 BMW i4 Price
The release date for the 2024 BMW i4 is expected to be in the last quarter of 2023. We should start seeing this beautiful car on our roads by the end of the year. Here are the starting prices for the BMW i4 in Canada, for the four trim levels of this electric sedan:
- BMW i4 eDrive 35: $56,225
- BMW i4 eDrive 40: $65,225
- BMW i4 xDrive 40: $71,135
- BMW i4 M50: $81,135
The main difference between each trim is the powertrain you’ll find inside the car. There’s also a greater variety of accessories that come standard with the M50.
A New Electric Powertrain in 2024
The 2023 BMW i4 already offered three electric powertrain options. The two eDrive powertrains include a single motor at the rear of the vehicle that supplies the rear wheels to propel the vehicle.
For 2024, a second xDrive powertrain was added to the options normally offered with the i4. The xDrive system is a two-motor configuration that supplies an all-wheel drive system and ensures better raw performance.
Here’s a recap of the 4 powertrains’ performance:
Name |
Combined Power |
Combined Torque |
Range |
eDrive35 |
281 horsepower |
295 lb-ft |
418 km |
eDrive40 |
335 horsepower |
317 lb-ft |
484 km |
xDrive40 |
396 horsepower |
443 lb-ft |
494 km |
M50 xDrive |
536 horsepower |
586 lb-ft |
435 km |
As you can see, the new xDrive40 is positioned between the eDrive40 and the M50, and it offers a solid combination of power and BMW i4 range. It’s a perfect addition to the i4 lineup!
The emphasis on perfectly engineered mechanics is one of the various aspects that make the BMW i4 stand out from the competition on the electric car market. In fact, like Jeff Wilson, a journalist at Auto Trader, said:
“The driving dynamics are what set this EV apart from its primary competitors and make it worthy of BMW’s reputation for building engaging performance cars.”
The Athletic BMW Exterior
The dynamic design of the i4 might not be that surprising, but it’s very charming, all the same. The kidney grille, a trademark of the Bavarian manufacturer, reveals in a flash the distinguished origin of this sedan.
The i4’s profile was designed to create exceptional aerodynamism, so that you can get the maximum out of the powerful motor inside the BMW. The 2,856 mm-long wheelbase emphasizes the elegant and athletic look of this electric car. This undeniable style comes with a wide selection of colours:
- Sanremo Green Metallic
- Sunset Orange Metallic
- Tanzanite Blue Metallic
- Aventurine Red Metallic
- Skyscraper Grey Metallic, etc.
So, whether you prefer to make the vibrant athleticism or the serious elegance of the BMW i4 stand out, it’s going to be easy to find a vehicle to your taste.
An Upscale Cabin
One of the first things you notice when you enter in the BMW i4 interior is the massive curved display that dominates the dashboard. It combines, in one screen, the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster with the 14.9-inch multimedia centre.
The multimedia centre allows you to access all the standard features of the i4 easily, like wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration.
In addition to this technology, you can choose upscale materials to appoint the inside of the cabin, like leather seats and a light wood trim for the dashboard. Among the optional accessories, you’ll find:
- 16-speaker stereo system
- Wireless charger
- Head-up display
- Ventilated front seats
- And much more!
It’s difficult to find a sedan that offers as many luxurious options as the new BMW i4.
With all these obvious advantages, it’s not surprising that the 2023 model of this BMW was named the Best Canadian Car of the Year by AJAC.
